New US ‘green gasoline’ facility from Sundrop

German technology and engineering supplier ThyssenKrupp Uhde is set to partner with Sundrop Fuels to create the first ‘green gasoline’ production facility in the US.

Sundrop expects to break ground for the new facility later this year and hopes to produce around 50 million gallons of renewable fuels per annum, it said in a statement.

The facility will be the proving ground for Sundrop’s proprietary biomass conversion technologies and will cost $450 million (€357 million) to construct. It is also hoped the plant will employ up to 150 people.

Sundrop has raised $60 million through investment for the project, with natural gas producer Chesapeake Energy putting in $155 million to become a strategic partner last summer.
