Neste renewable diesel sees Finnish consumers save 560 round the world flights worth of emissions
Finnish consumers have already reduced emissions by an amount equal to 560 flights around the world, using Neste MY Renewable Diesel. This is despite the fuel only being released at the start of the year.
Neste MY Renewable Diesel is produced 100% from waste and residues, and was launched into the Finnish market at the start of 2017. Using the fuel, Finnish consumers have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 1.5 million kg. This figure is equal to the emissions caused by 560 round-the-world charter flights for one person, or the annual emissions of more than 500 private cars.
"We are very happy that Finnish consumers have accepted Neste MY Renewable Diesel with so much enthusiasm. Currently, consumers are more environmentally conscious and demand cleaner fuel options. Neste MY Renewable Diesel allows consumers and our corporate customers to use fully renewable fuels," says Sam Holmberg, vice president responsible for Neste's Marketing and Services business area in Finland.
Neste’s own research shows that consumers are environmentally conscious. A survey carried out by the company found that four out of five respondents believed it to be important to reduce transport induced greenhouse gas emissions. Although 45% of those surveyed felt they could only have little impact on emissions, close to 90% of all respondents find it very or fairly important that renewable raw materials are used in fuel and energy production as much as possible.
More than ten raw materials are used in the production of Neste’s MY Renewable Diesel. The production is based on the company’s NEXBTL technology, which can produce high-quality renewable diesel and other renewable products from nearly any waste fat or vegetable oil. Compared to traditional fossil fuels, Neste MY Renewable Biodiesel has 90% lower greenhouse gas emissions during the fuel’s lifecycle.
