Neste Oil commits to aviation biofuels initiative in Netherlands
Neste Oil, a refining and marketing company concentrating on low-emission traffic fuels, is to promote the deployment of sustainable aviation biofuels in the Netherlands after committing to a Dutch initiative for the sector.
Neste is to explore the production opportunities for aviation biofuel and scaling up production. Its renewable fuel refinery in Rotterdam could potentially be the first site for producing renewable aviation fuel in the country.
Other signatories of the initiative include KLM, SkyNRG, Schiphol Airport, the Port of Rotterdam, the State Secretary of Infrastructure and the Environment, and the Minister of Economic Affairs.
Kaisa Hietala, Neste Oil's VP of renewable fuels, says: 'We expect this new initiative to stimulate market demand for sustainable aviation biofuel and promote a shift from individual projects to the continuous production and supply. The Netherlands is well-positioned to enable this breakthrough because of the commitment of the public and private sector in the aviation and biofuel industry.'
The company has already trialed its NExBTL renewable aviation fuel in commercial service. The fuel can make use of a variety of vegetable oil and waste-based raw materials.
