Miller Boat Line uses biodiesel

Ferry service company Miller Boat Line is switching to green fuel this season to ferry travellers to Put-in-Bay in Ohio, US.

The William Market passenger vessel is to run on a 10 to 20% blend of G2 Diesel to Put-in-Bay, which is located on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. Although using biodiesel will cost Miller Boat Line more than conventional diesel, this will not affect travel prices.

G2 Diesel, manufactured by biodiesel producer and distributor 11 Good Energy, is made from the reaction of soyabean oil and ethanol, rather than the more commonly used fossil fuel methanol.

Delaware-based 11 Good Energy formed in May 2007 before opening a 16.5mgy plant in Magnolia, Ohio.

Described as ‘the most value-friendly way to travel to Put-in-Bay’ the company, a G2 Diesel mix will eventually be used in each of the four ferries.

‘As a family-owned business we think about our kids with everything we do and we thought it was time to do something to protect the environment for future generations, said the VP of Miller Boat Line Scott Market said. ‘This allows us to shrink our carbon footprint.’
