Malaysian biomass plant under evaluation

A biomass plant could be built in the third largest Malaysian state of Pahang following an evaluation by Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).

The proposed plant is a joint venture between Felda Palm Industries (FPI), which will hold 51% of the equity, and Tenaga Nasional and J Power of Japan, both holding 24.5%.

The tender for the joint venture company, known as FTJ Biofuel, will be finalised at the end of January with construction to be completed by the end of 2011.

FPI operates a biomass power plant in Sahabat, Sabah, which has been running since 2006.
