Locke announces lockdown on offending polluters

Natural disasters including floods and the formation of deserts are a close reality for New York, US, and Shanghai, China, if drastic actions are not taken to radically slash greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, according to the commerce secretary Gary Locke.

While present at the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai Locke said: ‘That is the very real and very scary downside of our energy and climate challenge. When rising sea levels flood Manhattan or Pudong in Shanghai you had better believe climate change is going to be bad for business.’

Supporting Locke on a trade mission in China were executives from General Electric, First Solar and Boeing, which are all involved in either wind, solar or airline biofuel projects in China.

Locke continued: ‘It is important to remember that many of the technologies needed to successfully cope with climate change simply don’t exist yet.’
