Indian plant starts biodiesel production
The plant was started in 2007 and is aiming for a capacity of 100,000 tonnes of biodiesel a year.
The biofuel plant is a collaboration with Desmet Ballestra, an Italian-Belgian joint enterprise, with a total project cost of Rs 1.5 billion (€23.3 million).
India’s petroleum ministry has recommended a mixture of 20% biofuel with 80% diesel, minimising sulphur and particulate emissions, the company says.
‘We, however, have run vehicles on B40 without any modification of the engine mechanism,’ a senior official of Emami Biotech says.
The facility will predominantly use jatropha as raw material.
