Global Alternative Fuels expands biodiesel plant
The company is finalising the engineering for the $12 million (€9.5 million) expansion.
The producer plans to break ground in Q2.
‘Our current infrastructure allows for a fast implementation schedule,’ Carlos Guzmán, president and CEO of Global Alternative Fuels, comments. ‘We're shooting for the end of this year (to complete the expansion).’
The additional 10 mgy production capacity is the first phase of a planned two-phased expansion. Another 10 mgy capacity will be added later, which will bring the plant up to 25 mgy.
The plant, which started producing biodiesel in January 2009, needs to increase production to meet demand for the market from El Paso to Phoenix, Arizona.
Global Alternative Fuels processes palm, soyabean, cottonseed, and canola oils, along with yellow and brown greases and animal fats to produce biodiesel.
