Four distilleries in pipeline for the Philippines

Four new distilleries will be built in the Philippines to quench the country’s growing thirst for bioethanol fuel.

The distilleries will be running by the first quarter of 2010 and will be located in La Carlota City, Magallanes, San Mariano and Cagayan de Oro City.

The largest distillery will be located in San Marino with a capacity to produce 54 million litres a year.

The new plants will add 164 million litres of bioethanol a year to the country’s annual bioethanol production.

The total amount of bioethanol produced in the Philippines from existing and planned distilleries is a total of 209 million litres.

This is far behind the 461 million litres needed for the country to comply with the mandate that calls for a 10% bioethanol mix in all fuels by 2011.
