Fleetwing opens its first E85 ethanol pump
Comprising of a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% petrol, the fuel is available to owners of flex-fuel vehicles only. Fleetwing also distributes E85 to Lakeland city in bulk amounts for use in its fleet vehicles.
However, since the ethanol pump was installed around one month ago, business has been slow. Currently E85 and other green transport fuels contribute towards a maximum of just 2% of Fleetwings total sales.
However the president of Fleetwing David Ricketts remains optimistic that demand will increase. ‘Not only is there a cost savings involved for the consumer, it helps the consumer stay away from foreign oil products. We don’t like high oil prices any more than consumers do.’
And according to the Renewable Fuels Association the availability of ethanol blends could triple within the next few years.
A spokesperson for the lobbying group Robert White commented: ‘Florida alone has added several new E85 fuelling stations installed within the past two months.’
On Wednesday 9 June this year Fleetwing was selling E85 for $2.41 (€1.99) per gallon, compared to $2.61 for petrol and $2.91 for diesel.
