First customer down

After signing a Memorandum of Understanding solutions provider MBD Energy has become the first customer of algae-related technology producer OriginOil (OOIL).

The deal will see OOIL provide Australia-based MBD Energy with its Quantum Fracturing and Single-Step Extraction technology.

To begin with MBD Energy will use the technology in its research and development facility, which opened in November 2009, located at James Cook University, Queensland, Australia. If the technology proves successful in this initial stage MBD Energy will then go on to acquire larger feeding and OOIL extraction units that will be fitted at the company’s Algal Synthesizer power plants Tarong Energy, Loy Yang and Eraring Energy based in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales, respectively.

The Algae Syntehsizer captures carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and utilises it to grow algae rich in oil. The installation of OOIL's technology will boost the development of algae and remove the oil.

In similar news, MBD Energy is also due to begin the construction of its one-hectare pilot plant at Tarong Power Station. The aim of the project is to capture 700 tonnes of CO2 a year, with the potential to expand within a decade to consume over 50% of the Tarong plant’s harmful flue-gas emissions.
