EBB to lodge US biodiesel complaint

Europe’s biofuels industry plans to lodge a complaint with EU trade authorities against US companies which it believes are evading anti-dumping duties.

The European Commission imposed anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on imports of biodiesel from the US but the European Biodiesel Board (EBB) believe that subsidised and dumped US biodiesel still enters the European market via third countries.

The EBB said: ‘Against the background of persisting circumvention practices, the EBB General Assembly decided to proceed with the lodging of an anti-circumvention complaint to the EU trade authorities. If and when established, these practices will lead to heavy and retroactive financial penalties.’

The board will file its complaint in the upcoming weeks but has not, as yet, revealed the companies suspected to be involved.
