Eastern Petroleum to open plant

North Carolina’s Eastern Petroleum will open its new cassava-fed bioethanol plant in 2012, after negotiating with technology providers.

‘We are currently negotiating for the supplies. We are finalising talks with the technology providers from India, Korea and China. We expect to have a final investment decision this year and the plant to open in two-and-half years,’ Eastern Petroleum president Ferdinand L. Martinez says.

The company is harvesting cassava to be used by the plant. However this has been affected by drought with production being 40% less than expected.
