Del Monte says yes to biodiesel in UAE
Food manufacturer and marketer Del Monte has joined in a biodiesel project with its clients McDonald’s in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Twenty vehicles from Del Monte’s logistics fleet are running on biodiesel made from McDonald’s UAE’s used vegetable cooking oil, with an aim to get the entire fleet on renewable fuel before 2014.
McDonald’s UAE has been powering its vehicles via 100% renewable fuel for two year in partnership with Neutral Fuels.
‘As McDonald's UAE's supplier for the past six years, we saw this as a great opportunity to participate in what we believe is a groundbreaking initiative,’ Oussama Naddy, general manager at Del Monte Foods (UAE), was quoted as saying.
‘The benefits associated with this biodiesel include the 80% reduction of carbon dioxide emission and a conversion from regular diesel to biodiesel can be made throughout our fleet without modifying the engines.’
