Chemrec USA joins Biorefinery Deployment Collaborative

Chemrec USA, a subsidiary of Sweden-based black liquor gasification company Chemrec, has joined the Biorefinery Deployment Collaborative (BDC) collaborating on biorefinery development.

Chemrec has a business model for transforming pulp and paper mills into green fuels biorefineries.

A new member of the BDC, Chemrec is talking to various pulp and paper mills about its unique co-ownership model. Under its model, Chemrec helps arrange financing to build the biorefinery with a combination of government grants and loan guarantees, as well an equity combination by Chemrec USA.

The BDC is a network of public and private companies interested in influencing the course of the emerging bio-economy in the US.

With their roots in the north central states, the BDC’s members are committed to shaping the policies that will prepare the region to realise its biorefinery potential.

The Chemrec Fuels-from-the-Forest process transforms pulp and paper black liquor waste into clean alternative motor fuels. Because the harvested forestry used by the mills is a renewable resource, the green fuels produced through the Chemrec process are carbon neutral.

Aside from its ability to replace a significant portion of petroleum-based fuels and its neutral impact on the environment, green fuels produced through a Chemrec biorefinery enable paper mills to generate a high-margin revenue stream from black liquor waste while adding jobs to support the biorefinery process.
