Canadian Government to fund research into next-generation yeast

The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) has announced that it will give $500,000 in funding to Renaissance BioScience Corp (RSBC). The non-repayable contribution will support RSBC’s research and development of a proprietary, non GMO yeast strain development platform.

A global yeast technology company based in Vancouver, Canada, RSBC develops yeast-based platform technologies for biofuels, as well as the food and beverage, alcohol, animal and human nutrition, and pharmaceutical industries.

As part of its research and development work, RSBC is involved in the unearthing of new yeast strains for commercialisation. It also looks to discover and utilise advanced technology capable of improving the company’s proprietary strain development platform.

“We are pleased to receive funding from IRAP in support of furthering our next-generation non-GMO yeast development platform,” said Dr. Matthew Dahabieh, Chief Science Officer.

“The assistance offered by IRAP is an important catalyst for us to enhance our strain development capabilities and will enable us to take the next step in offering innovative next-generation yeast technology to our customers. We thank the Government of Canada and IRAP and for their support.”
