Blackhawk Biofuels opens Illinois plant

US-based Blackhawk Biofuels has opened a 45 million gallon a year biodiesel plant in Danville, Illinois.

The plant on the Indiana border will manufacture biodiesel from vegetable oil.

Blackhawk expects the plant to sell biodiesel by the end of the year. The company bought the plant just before Biofuels Company of America completed construction.

In early March, Blackhawk learned that a major lender for its proposed $62 million (€48 million) multi-feedstock plant near Freeport, Illinois, was backing out, leaving the company without crucial funding to proceed.

On 14 March, Blackhawk investors voted to pursue the takeover of the recently completed Danville, Illinois plant.
