BioTfueL to break ground on biofuels plants

A new project has been launched in France to produce biodiesel and bio-kerosene.

BioTfueL is composed of five French partners and German engineering company Uhde.

With a global reliance on energy and the need to increase our consumption of renewable resources, the BioTfueL scheme will be the first to meet these requirements with a technically innovative solution.

Uhde has set aside €112.7 million for the project and this will see the construction and operation of two pilot plants in France that will produce biodiesel and bio-kerosene. The plants are due to be online in 2012.

Uhde’s contribution to the production of biofuels is mainly its proprietary Prenflo&trade gasification process with direct quench (PDQ). The Prenflo™ process is at present a big hit in Puertollano, Spain, where the world’s largest combined cycle power station with integrated coal gasification is in operation using petrol coke and coal biomass as charge materials.

Eventually BioTfueL aims to eliminate all the current technological obstacles to allow for all process stages to be adapted for use in the combined application of biomass and fossil resources. When the BioTfueL project has come to an end the partners predict there will be a good market for a considerable number of industrial applications.
