Biomass plant announced for Indiana
The Crawford County plant will cost $80-90 million (€57-64.5 million).
Funding for the project is expected to come through equity investments, bank financing, local tax abatement and federal New Markets Tax Credits, which the company plans to seek.
The company also expects to qualify for federal Renewable Energy Credits and production tax credits.
The company is in the process of applying for environmental permits and tax incentives. Construction is expected to begin in 18 to 20 months and last about 15 months.
The plant will be generating electricity by late 2011.
The plant will produce electricity from wood biomass including sawdust and wood shavings from Southern Indiana saw mills, furniture and cabinet makers. The company will also collect biomass from land clearing and logging, tree trimming and storm damage.
A local utility has signed a letter of intent with Liberty Green Renewables to purchase all of the electricity generated by the plant, as well as the plant’s Renewable Energy Credits.
