BioJet and UWI-Cave Hill partner for research and commercial biofuels
BioJet International, a US-headquartered company dedicated to renewable jet fuel and related products in the aviation and transportation sectors, and the University of the West Indies Cave Hill (UWI-Cave Hill) Campus in Barbados have joined forces for a biosciences research and commercial project.
The agreement will see BioJet financially support research at UWI-Cave Hill, which will test and commercialise biofuels and other renewable products. The UWI/BioJet International Biofuel Research Institute will also be established under the JV.
Mitch Hawkins, CEO of BioJet says, 'We operate throughout the entire biofuel value chain and research is key to all aspects of our global competitiveness. The Caribbean is a major area of interest for our company and we see UWI-Cave Hill as a valuable partner in the future success of our operations.
'The 1st July approval of ASTM International allowing 50% blends of aviation biofuel derived from feedstocks such as camelina, jatropha and microalgae, is a game changing decision for the worldwide transportation industry and opens up tremendous opportunities for both UWI and Biojet International,' he continues.
