Biofuels JV launched in the Philippines
The project, based in Isabela province, will include the production of power and ethanol at a commercial scale.
Green Future will manufacture and sell the biofuel produced from 54,000 kilolitres (kl) of sugarcane annually, as well as a maximum of 19MW of electricity generated from sugarcane residuals.
The production of ethanol and electricity is expected to begin in February 2012. The sugarcane utilised by the business will provide around 3,000 full-time jobs for the local people.
Green Future says that, once completed, the ethanol production facility will be the largest in the country.
According to the agreement a power generator must be constructed in the ethanol production plant complex where the excess electricity can then be sold to outside users.
The power facility is expected to benefit from a new incentive, due to be implemented some time this year. The government is planning to enact this law that will provide favorable treatment for the supply of electricity generated by renewable energy resources.
