Biofuel capacity increases at port as firms make investment decisions
2022 saw a continuation of biofuels activities that began in the years before that. The current biofuel production capacity of 2.4 million tons is expected to double in the coming years.
Construction plans
Neste has taken a final investment decision (FID) for their second renewable fuels plant with a capacity of 1.3 million tons - an investment of $1.5 billion (€1.38 billion).
The company will be producing both renewable diesel and SAF while their current plant has a capacity of 1.4 million tons, mostly for renewable diesel and some biopropane.
Additionally Shell took a FID for their new HEFA plant. The facility will be built on their own refinery site, and the oil and gas major is busy constructing their biofuels and pretreatment plant that has a capacity of 0.82 million tons.
