Biodiesel storage tests ‘successful’ in Germany
German biodiesel quality association AGQM has completed an oxidation stability study of biodiesel created from rapeseed oil using various additives and storage conditions.
It spent nine months storing biodiesel under both ideal and realistic storage conditions, blended with four conventional oxidation stabilisers.
Sampling took place every month and measurements were taken on oxidation stability, acid and peroxide numbers and water content, with a particular view of using the fuel in parking heaters.
‘The results serve as basis for the continuing development of parking heaters fit for the operation with biodiesel,’ read an AGQM statement. ‘Fuels intended for this operation must be of high quality which must then also be guaranteed for the post-summer time when frost sets in again.’
A ‘no-harm‘ list is published on AGQM’s homepage detailing all 40 oxidation stabilisers successfully tested so far.
