Benefuel to build biodiesel plant in Sarnia

According to The Observer Benefuel has secured a site at the Arlanxeo bio-industrial park in Sarnia, to build a biodiesel refinery.

The Observer states that Benefuel has been looking for a site in Sarnia that would have a plant capable of producing 75 million litres of biodiesel a year. Benefuel has said that the commercial scale plant will employ 40 workers; however the company is yet to release an estimate of how much it will cost to build the refinery.

CEO Rob Tripp told The Observer, “Benefuel has begun engineering at the Sarnia facility and have secured the land for the project. We are currently fundraising now and if successful, we will proceed with the project.”

Tripp continued by stating that Benefuel has successfully commercialised its patented process for manufacturing low carbon biodiesel and bio-lubricants from waste feedstocks, by using used cooking oil and byproducts from ethanol refining.

The process has been run successfully at Benefuel’s biodiesel refinery in Nebraska for over two years said Tripp. “We are looking to leverage this success in the key low carbon markets, namely Canada, the US and the EU.”
