Aemetis receives $3 million grant for sorghum project
Aemetis has received a $3 million (€2.2 million) matching grant award from the California Energy Commission (CEC) Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Programme.
Industrial biotech company Aemetis received this award following the company's 'low-carbon sorghum ethanol project application to the 'pilot-scale and commercial-scale advanced biofuels production facilities' grant solicitation published by the CEC this year.
The project aims to support the production of biofuels using grain sorghum as a feedstock, while reducing the carbon intensity (CI) of Aemetis' fuel ethanol, helping to develop a local California sorghum growing programme and related supply chain, and to help new technologies that encourage lower CI transportation fuels.
