ADM to build $36 million biomass facility

After receiving a healthy grant from the Department of Energy, Archer Daniel Midland (ADM) has announced plans to build a biomass facility in the city of Decatur in Illinois, US.

According to the Department of Energy, ADM was awarded $24.8 million (€16.8 million) in federal funding for the project and an additional $10.9 million from private sources.

Todd Werpy, vice president of Biofuels and Biochemical Research said: ‘Biofuels remain the only widely available alternative transportation fuel available today. This project demonstrates ADM's commitment to advanced biofuels and our work to meet the goals of the Renewable Fuel Standard Program’.

ADM spokesperson, Roman Blahoski, confirmed that the construction of the new plant on ADM’s main Decatur campus begins in 2010 with the completion date around 2012.
