Port of Rotterdam’s green scheme

The Port of Rotterdam has announced its incentive scheme, Climate-Friendly Shipping. From the 21st of January interested parties will be able to apply for funding through the scheme, as the Port of Rotterdam Authority has made €5 million available.

CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Allard Castelein said, “We wish to play an active part in the reduction of C02 emissions generated by the shipping sector. Through this scheme, we are able to give various parties just that extra financial push they need to realise a concrete project in this area.”

The Port Authority invites shippers, shipping companies. Fuel manufactures and suppliers, engine manufactures and service providers to take advantage and use this new scheme. The initiative is intended to promote projects and demonstrations that make use of low-carbon or zero-carbon fuels delivered in Rotterdam’s port area.

At the launch of the scheme, Castelein said, “The Paris Agreement has set a clear target: we need to limit global warming to well below 2°C. It is vital in this context to reduce the emissions generated by maritime transport. As critical hubs in the global maritime transport network, I am convinced that ports can make a significant contribution.”
