
Amparo Arellano
Standards & Certifications Director, RSB
Amparo Arellano joined RSB as Standards and Certifications Director in July 2024. She is leading the Sustainability Foundations team at RSB and is responsible for the development and strengthening of the RSB sustainability certification framework, ensuring that RSB provides stakeholders and industry players with a robust and credible certification framework that drives tangible environmental and social impacts across various industries, contributing to RSB’s mission of promoting sustainable bioeconomy globally.
Amparo holds a Master’s in Environmental Sciences from the University of Alcala de Henares (Madrid, Spain) and the University of Applied Sciences of Hamburg (Germany). Amparo has over ten years of experience in working in sustainable certification and standard setting. She worked for eight years at Forest Stewardship Council, the world’s leading certification scheme for sustainable forest management. At FSC her role was focused on the areas of quality assurance, stakeholder engagement and communication. In last two years Amparo moved into the bioenergy and biomass sustainability certification sector, joining Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme (SURE certification) as Senior Expert Sustainability Certification. At SURE Amparo gained hands on experience in the implementation of EU Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001 (RED II), as well as the various policy processes at EU level in the areas or bioenergy and biofuels. At SURE certification Amparo was involved in various capacities of the development of the certification system, from the development of the technical guidelines to stakeholder engagement. Amparo is passionate about sustainability and specifically, about working hand in hand with industry players to steer them towards more environmental and socially responsible practices.
