SG Biofuels and Bunge collaborate

Bioenergy crop firm SG Biofuels, dedicated to developing and producing jatropha seeds, has partnered with Bunge North America to research and develop a model to produce a biofuel feedstock from jatropha seeds.

The president and CEO of SG Biofuels Kirk Haney announced the news at the Advanced Biofuels Markets Conference & Expo in San Francisco, California.

The venture will see Bunge join a team of partners, including refining and petrochemical firm Flint Hills Resources; Life Technologies, a global biotechnology tools company; and others that are collaborating with SG Biofuels to develop jatropha as a viable source for cost-effective, sustainable crude plant oil.

Commenting on the partnership Haney stated: ‘Bunge, together with Life Technologies and Flint Hills Resources, provides a fully integrated platform from which our customers can develop, produce and profit from large volumes of crude jatropha oil.’
