UK firm develops innovation to determine biodiesel blend content

UK engineering specialist Salunda has developed an advanced sensor technology for the accurate determination of the biofuel content of diesel blends used in a wide range of automotive and industrial power applications.

According to the firm, its new technology, called DieselProve can also identify impurities such as vegetable oil, white spirit and water in fuels.

In a statement, the company said: “With the tolerance of biofuel content being critical in relation to engine performance, power output and potential damage to components, the assessment of fuel quality and composition has become an essential preventative maintenance task for users of diesel fuel blends in a range of sectors.

“To meet this need, DieselProve utilises patented technology to exploit the electromagnetic properties of the fuel under test to detect the level of biodiesel present.

“Less than 50ml of fuel is required to enable the electronic hand held unit and integral probe to provide an accurate in-field measurement of biodiesel content with comparable accuracy to laboratory testing.”
