DECC: Biofuels used in road transport dips in Q3 2015

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has announced that the share of liquid biofuels consumed in road transport, in the UK, fell from 4.2% during the third quarter of 2014 to 3.3% during the third quarter of 2015.

DECC unveiled the statistics in its latest 'Energy Trends' publication.

Figures from DECC also showed that biodiesel consumption was 35% lower than the same quarter of 2014, while ethanol consumption was down by 3.3%.

In a statement, DECC said that 382m litres of liquid biofuels were consumed during the quarter, compared to 485m litres in Q3 2014.

Ethanol represented 53.7% of biofuels consumption during the quarter, while biodiesel accounted for 46.3%. According to DECC, ethanol accounted for 4.7% of gasoline during the third quarter, while biodiesel accounted for 2.4% of diesel.
