Renewable Energy Group opens first biodiesel fuelling station

US advanced biofuels producer Renewable Energy Group (REG) has opened its first biodiesel fuelling station in Seneca, Illinois, US.

Customers will be able to fill up their vehicles with biodiesel blended fuel at the fully-automated station, which operates 24/7.

“This diesel fueling station is another example of how REG is moving fuel forward by expanding our capabilities,” said Cynthia J. Warner, REG president and CEO. “It gives us another avenue of getting our high quality, clean fuel to new and existing customers.”

The company’s Seneca biorefinery facility is located adjacent to the fuelling station, with a production capacity of 60 million gallons per year. Low carbon biodiesel used in the diesel blends between B11 and above will be produced at this facility and supplied to the Seneca fuel station.

“More than 17,000 trucks go through REG Seneca each year,” said Gary Haer, vice-president of sales and marketing. “We are thrilled that those who help support our industry and the local community can fuel their vehicles right here at this station.”

In 2018, biodiesel produced at REG’s Seneca biorefinery reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 556,000 metric tons, compared to petroleum diesel.
