Siouxland Ethanol begins expansion project at Nebraska ethanol plant

Siouxland Ethanol has begun construction on the expansion project of its Nebraska bioethanol plant, which will see the installation of two new fermenters.

The $8.5 million (€7.7m) project seeks to increase the processing capacity of the Siouxland’s facility, located in Nebraska’s Dakota country, from the current 20 million corn bushels annually.

“We're going to be increasing our production by about 15 percent in our ethanol yield and volume. We'll also be increasing the amount of distillers grains that we sell and produce,” Pat Miller, director of industry & investor relations at Siouxland Ethanol, told Siouxland Matters.

The expansion, which will increase the number of fermenters at the plant to six, is set to not only increase production yields, but also help make corn processing more efficient.

“We'll also address our cooling capacity. On days when it's really hot, we need as much cooling capacity as possible to keep the yeast at the right temperature in the process,” said Miller.

SBI General & Mechanical, with past experience in the ethanol industry, has been selected as the general contractor for the expansion.

Biofuels International covered the then-planned plant expansion last time in June.
