Godavari Biorefineries increases ethanol production capacity to 50 million litres

Godavari Biorefineries, an Indian ethanol producer, has commissioned its expanded facility for dehydrated ethanol manufacturing at Sameerwadi in Karnataka.

With the expansion, the company now has the capacity to produce 50 million litres per year of fuel grade ethanol, up from 15 million litres.

The expansion of the fully automated plant using molecular sieve dehydration technology was completed in five months, and the facility will use byproducts of its sugar manufacturing process as raw material.

Samir Somaiya, chairman and managing director of Godavari, believes the expansion will create more value from the company’s renewable stocks.

“The expansion will help our greater participation in the blending programme of the government of India that mandates target of 5% blending of biofuel with petrol,” Somaiya said.

Godavari Biorefineries is a biorefining company producing sugar, biofuels, chemicals, power, compost, waxes, and related products using sugarcane as the primary feedstock.

The company has manufacturing plants at Sameerwadi, Bagalkot district in Karnataka and Sakarwadi, Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra.

The company had recently raised private equity from Mandala Capital, a part of which was used to set up the expanded plant.
