US ethanol production volumes fall from December levels

In the April edition of its Short-Term Energy Outlook, released on 7 April, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) says that ethanol production was around 944,000 barrels per day (bpd) in March 2015. This is a drop from the all-time high 1 million bpd recorded in December 2014.

Ethanol production averaged 935,000 bpd last year, and EIA expects it to average 944 bpd in 2015 and 937,000 bpd in 2016.

According to the report, fuel ethanol blending into petrol is projected to decrease by 10,000 bpd from last summer's level to 880,000 bpd, which is 9.6% of total petrol consumption.

Biodiesel production averaged an estimated 83,000 bpd in 2014 and is forecast to average 82,000 bpd in 2015 and 84,000 bpd in 2016.
