Biofuels plant receives permit to reopen

Following an explosion at the JNS Biofuel plant a year ago, the rebuilt New Albany, Mississippi plant has received all the permits it needs to reopen.

However, state and local officials are unaware of when this will take place.

Danny Jordan, president, Union County Board of Supervisors, said: 'Our emergency management director keeps a good eye on what's going on, and MDEQ says they've met the requirements to open.'

The plant has all three permits required to start up operations but officials don't know when it will do so, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality said.

The estimated damage to property and contents following the explosion and fire was $3.5 million (€3.1 million). Due to the considerable damage caused, investigators could not pinpoint the cause.
