Finland-based biorefining technology Chempolis, has signed a partnership agreement with Numaligarh Refinery (A Government of India Enterprise).
The duo will build a bioethanol biorefinery in Northeast India.
Using Chempolis' formicobio technology, the plant will also produce furfural and acetic acid from locally available cellulosic biomass including biomass.
The project is expected to complete implementation by 2017.
Pasi Rousu, president, APAC, says: 'This agreement is one important step to approach the national policy on biofuels announced by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, government of India in 2009 that targets 20% blending of biofuels in diesel and petrol by 2017.'
